Event History

The first Paul Skeffington Memorial Race took place on June 11th, 1988. It was started by the family of Paul Skeffington, a popular local businessman, who passed away in January of 1988. The family approached the DeWitt Chamber of Commerce for ideas for a memorial and out of the many ideas, the race was chosen.

The first race consisted of 330 participants. The family of Mr. Skeffington originally planned for the event to run for one year, but it grew into a coveted community event for 38 years. See all previous winners from the past 38 years.

Miles of Meaning is a new event designed to carry on the original vision of the Skeffington family. The event is a run/walk that brings people together to build a stronger community by funding health and wellness projects, providing scholarship opportunities for area youth and supporting the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
