The first Paul Skeffington Memorial Race took place on June 11th, 1988. It was started by the family of Paul Skeffington, a popular local businessman, who passed away in January of 1988. The family approached the DeWitt Chamber of Commerce for ideas for a memorial and out of the many ideas, the race was chosen.
The first race consisted of 330 participants. The family of Mr. Skeffington originally planned for the event to run for one year, but has been an annual event for over 30 years. Today, the event brings the community together to build a stronger community together by funding park improvement and expansion projects and providing scholarship opportunities for area youth.
