Starting Line 1988

At the starting line, first annual Paul Skeffington Memorial Race, June 11th, 1988

The first running of the Paul Skeffington Memorial Race took place on June 11th, 1988. It was started by the family of Paul Skeffington, a popular local businessman, who passed away in January of 1988. The family approached the DeWitt Chamber of Commerce for ideas for a memorial and was presented with several ideas. Out of the many ideas, the race was chosen.

Over the years, the 2 and 5 mile runs have grown in popularity. The first race consisted of 330 participants. The family of Mr. Skeffington originally planned for the event to run for one year, but has been an annual event for over 30 years.
